Godzilla vs Kong
DC Fans have the Snyderverse, Marvel fans have the Multiverse, and I have recently learned that if you love King Kong and Godzilla, there is a Monsterverse. The latest addition to the Monsterverse is Godzilla vs Kong, the epic showdown between two big… things. Ok, so if we are being honest, I have never watched anything Godzilla or King Kong related. I know nothing about the Monsterverse and after watching the movie I think I am more confused than before. However, hundreds of thousands of people all across the world love these movies. As of today, Godzilla vs Kong has earned almost 200 million dollars worldwide. There has got to be something more to this Godzilla and King Kong thing--something special, something other than just two big guys destroying coastal cities. I went into this movie determined to uncover the secret of Monsterverse.
The Courier
This latest spy thriller based on a true story and set in the Cold War of the 1960s is an earnest and tightly constructed tale of interwoven destinies. In 1962, MI6, the British equivalent of the CIA recruited an inexperienced civilian machinery salesman, Greville Wynn, (Benedict Cumberbatch) to enter the USSR under the guise of business and retrieve information from a high-level Russian intelligence official, Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze). The intel was being leaked with the hope that the Cuban Missile Crisis would not devolve into a global disaster.
Justice League: The Snyder Cut
I am not a Zach Snyder fan. I have mercilessly mocked Batman Vs Superman and Man of Steel for years. In 2020 it was announced Zack Snyder and his team were going to release Justice League: the Snyder Cut. This was going to be Snyders’s version of the movie and would be 4hrs long. I was dreading it, 4hrs of slow-mo, dark and broody scenes, and absolutely no joy or humor whatsoever. But thanks to my unending curiosity and a need to write this review, I sat down and watched it. and let me say I have never been happier to have all of my expectations shattered.
Chaos Walking
Ironically, based on the novel “The Knife of Never Letting Go” by Patrick Ness, Chaos Walking was announced in 2011 with the expectation that it would be the next YA-adapted bonanza like the “Hunger Games” to follow the Twilight series. But the project immediately ran into problems as the script went through numerous rewrites. Doug Liman of “The Bourne Identity” was brought on to direct and the project was to cast with rising young Hollywood stars Tom Holland (Marvel’s Spiderman) as the protagonist and Daisy Ridley (Rey of Star Wars) as the only woman on a dystopian world where men’s thoughts are verbalized aloud and are visible in a misty cloud that circles their heads.
Wonder Woman 1984
It’s been a long time coming and movie fans everywhere are excited for a new superhero blockbuster to hit the big screen. Particularly a follow-up to the smash hit 2017 film spearheaded by Patty Jenkins who took a fresh new take on a long overlooked superhero and breathed new life into her franchise. Wonder Woman is back and now living in 1984. Gal Godot is back in the iconic role and believable as ever as the Amazonian Princess Warrior who now dons cheetah print high heels and effortlessly saves citizens of Washington DC, without mussing her hair or wrinkling her dress. And back with her are the high-minded virtues and heroic bravado the capture all anyone would want from your favorite super woman…
Mulan
Disney is banking on the idea that families eager to see a new movie will pay $29.99 to sit down together at home and watch their latest live action version of an animated classic, “Mulan.” Released only on Disney+, an additional fee is added to their regular service to see this film. The movie will become a part of the regular Disney+ catalog at the end of the year. Some may view this as a money grab, but it is not hard to understand that Disney needs to recoup the $200 million dollars they have invested in what should have been a major theatrical release…
